Power yoga
Power yoga is a style of yoga which is based on the vinyasa
and ashtanga styles of yoga. In fact, it is also known as Ashtanga Vinyasa
Yoga. It is generally considered more physically demanding than the
more basic practices of yoga.
The term “power yoga” came about during the 1990s. It came
with the goal of making the Ashtanga style of yoga more accessible to
Western students. Today, it is one of the most popular styles. There
are many DVDs being sold in the western world which emphasize this style.
The appeal of power yoga is generally its stronger emphasis on strength
and flexibility. It is a bit more physically minded than philosophically
minded, compared to other yoga styles. The many different poses are
done quickly, and there is not a specific order. This allows different
instructors of the style to vary their classes considerably.
