Prenatal yoga

Prenatal yoga is designed to accommodate the health of mothers to be. There are a couple reasons why a woman may choose to take such a class. For one, these classes help a woman stay in shape during pregnancy. In addition to that, yoga has been shown to prepare and aid a woman during labor.

A study was conducted in Thailand which explored the effect which prenatal yoga had on a group of pregnant women. Like all scientific studies, a control group who did not engage in yoga was also studied. At the end of the study the researchers concluded that yoga improved the comfort of a mother going through birth. Also, the first stage of labor was shortened for women who had practiced yoga.

In addition to prenatal yoga, there are other yoga options for new moms. Postpartum yoga focuses on helping out mothers who have very recently given birth recover. In certain areas, mom and baby yoga classes are offered. These allow mothers to bring their child into class to rest while they practice yoga.
